“I first met Mark while competing against him in the North Pole Marathon. To take on endurance challenges in places like The Arctic and Gobi Desert requires great courage and mental strength. The fact that Mark has completed these adventures after losing his sight makes him truly inspiring.”

Sir Ranulph Fiennes

Unbroken by blindness in 1998, Mark Pollock went on to compete in ultra-endurance races across deserts, mountains, and the frozen Arctic ocean. He also won silver and bronze medals for rowing at the Commonwealth Games and set up a motivational speaking business.

Then, on the tenth anniversary of his sight-loss, he took part in a 43-day expedition race in the coldest, most remote, most challenging place on earth in Antarctica. And, on 26 January 2009, he became the first blind person to race to the South Pole. To read more about Mark’s motivation to take part in the race click here.
